JIBE Joint Qualification for Innovative Building Efficiency
Erasmus Forward Looking
Project number: 101259716
Duration: April 2026 – March 2028
About the project
The building sector, responsible for 40 % of energy use and one-third of global CO2 emissions, plays a vital role in achieving a low-carbon economy by 2050. To meet these goals, buildings must evolve into smart, adaptive nodes within the energy grid. As smart building technologies, powered by AI, IoT and big data, proliferate, the demand for highly skilled professionals grows exponentially. The JIBE project addresses this emerging skills gap in the smart building and electrotechnical sector through an innovative joint approach to vocational education and training (VET). The general objective of the project is to develop and test innovative joint approaches in the electrotechnical sector in HVET between HR, SI, IT, SRB, AT, and SL for a highly skilled and mobile workforce contributing to innovation at practice and policy-level in VET. The specific objective of the project is to develop and test joint qualification at EQF level 5 for the Expert in Building Intelligence together with an innovative framework for recognition, mobility, and attractiveness of VET in line with industry needs. To achieve these objectives, JIBE builds its joint qualification on detailed skills mapping and the active involvement of employers to ensure direct alignment with real-world demands. A flexible learning structure will underpin the qualification: a comprehensive curriculum, modular micro-credentials, digital learning materials, collaborative projects and a digital twin of a smart home. All frameworks and learning structure will be tested, including mobility of teachers and a summer school for students. The project is acctevlly supported by policymakers as full and associated partners ensuring long term sustainability and a successful roll out of the joint qualification between VET providers from 6 countries.
