This immersive course Gamify your Classroom: Enhancing Learning Through Play empowers educators to integrate gamification into their classrooms, fostering creativity, engagement, and critical thinking. Participants begin by exploring gamification principles and benefits, with hands-on demonstrations showcasing how board games enhance problem-solving and creativity. They then dive into designing gamified lesson plans, defining objectives, brainstorming game-inspired ideas, and collaboratively drafting lessons. Interactive feedback sessions refine these ideas into practical, engaging strategies. The workshop introduces digital tools and platforms, guiding participants in designing their digital gamified activities. Discussions address privacy and responsible technology use, ensuring safe and effective implementation. Advanced sessions focus on inclusive gamification strategies, designing for diverse learning styles, and overcoming classroom challenges. Group activities and peer reviews enhance collaboration and idea development.

Tentative schedule:

Day 1: Introduction to Gamification in Education

  • Welcome and Icebreaker Activity
  • Overview of gamification principles and benefits in the classroom
  • Demonstration of a board game and its application in problem-solving
  • Discussion on how board games can enhance critical thinking and creativity.

Day 2: Designing a Gamified Lesson Plan

  • Interactive exercise: Define learning objectives for a gamified lesson (work in pairs/groups)
  • Brainstorming session: Generate ideas inspired by board game mechanics (all together)
  • Hands-on activity: Participants sketch out a draft of a gamified lesson (work in pairs/groups)
  • Group discussion: Share and refine ideas with feedback from peers.

Day 3: Deepening Gamification Strategies

  • Overview of Digital Tools and Platforms Suitable for Classroom Gamification
  • Interactive Demonstration of Chosen Digital Gamification Tool
  • Hands-on Activity: Design a Digital Gamified Activity
  • Discussion: Privacy and Responsible Use of Digital Tools in Education.

Day 4: Deepening Gamification Strategies

  • Designing for diverse learning styles and inclusive gamification strategies
  • Discussion: Overcoming common challenges in gamified classrooms
  • Group activity: Lesson design using advanced techniques (work in pairs/groups)
  • Peer review: Provide and receive structured feedback on lesson plans (all together).

Day 5: Planning and Evaluation for Future Implementation

  • Strategies for gradual implementation of gamification in the classroom
  • Planning a pilot: Steps to introduce gamification to students and other educators
  • Designing assessment tools to measure the impact of gamification
  • Reflect on learning and insights gained throughout the workshop.

Day 6: Course closure & cultural activities

  • Course evaluation: round-up of acquired competencies, feedback, and discussion;
  • Awarding of the course Certificate of Attendance;
  • Excursion and other external cultural activities.
