InterWine: Merging Cultural Heritage and Wine Tourism to Create a Sustainable Cross-Border Destination
Interreg Slovenia - Croatia
Project number: SIHR00295
Duration: August 2024 – January 2027
The InterWine project, Merging Cultural Heritage and Wine Tourism to Create a Sustainable Cross-Border Destination, has been selected as one of only six successful projects out of 73 applications submitted to the Interreg Slovenia-Croatia cross-border cooperation program. This program focuses on Strengthening the Role of Culture and Sustainable Tourism in Economic Development, Social Inclusion, and Social Innovation.
The project aims to enhance the role of culture and sustainable tourism by developing a new joint tourism product that integrates cultural heritage with the traditions of winemaking and viticulture. This innovative tourism product will be developed through a participatory approach involving local communities and key stakeholders from both Croatia and Slovenia.
The project will include various activities, such as focus groups and workshops to define and create a plan for establishing a shared destination. A new tourism product will be developed and presented through both tangible and online elements. InterWine facilities in Velika Gorica, Pušća, and Brežice will be equipped to connect cultural heritage with wine offerings. Additionally, a shared souvenir, itineraries, and a tourist guide will be created, along with an intuitive online platform to promote enogastronomic offerings and cultural heritage.
This comprehensive approach will improve the quality and attractiveness of the destination while ensuring the sustainability and resilience of tourism and culture. The project will also include educational and motivational workshops for key stakeholders, pilot testing of the tourism product elements, and active promotion.
To capitalize on project results and ensure ongoing collaboration, partners will develop an InterWine Handbook and sign an Agreement on Future Cooperation, guaranteeing the long-term impact and commitment of partners and stakeholders after the project's completion.
This highly significant project, which will last 30 months, has a total budget of EUR 1,383,080.02. Project partners include the Zagreb County Tourist Board, the City of Velika Gorica, the Municipality of Pušća, the Vocational School for Adult Education, the Institute for Entrepreneurship, Tourism, and Youth in Brežice, the University of Maribor Faculty of Tourism in Brežice, and the Posavje Museum Brežice.
